Fantasy Fridays: Prague, Czech Republic

We had earlier decided to give ourselves another reason to look forward to Fridays (apart from the obvious impending weekend and two days away from the bureau). A vacation every Friday! Not exactly a real vacation every Friday but more of a photo recap of a vacation we or either one of us have taken in order to re-live our past holidays and all the related memories of each trip.  Plus it makes us look at our photos (those guilty of taking tons of photos with the digital camera but hardly look at them, raise your hands :P)!

FANTASY FRIDAYS!

On our second installment of Fantasy Fridays, from last week’s post on Bangkok, we fly across continents to Prague in the Czech Republic.

Prague was a destination pretty much unknown to me when I made the trip there several years ago with two girlfriends. We experienced 5 days of nippy cold weather but to say the least, the city blew my mind away by its history and beauty. As I was told and I came to agree with, Prague is essentially like an open-air museum and there’s no better way to explore and discover the city than on foot.

When you get to Prague, you’ll most certainly end up in the Old Town Square. Once you get there, climb up the Old Town Hall! It’s worth the effort as you will get good views over the city…

But before you get there, for those who arrive without hotel reservations, a vending machine-style hotel reservation service was available at the airport. No guarantee about the hotel rates though…

Ordering food wasn’t always easy when we didn’t speak Czech…

The most prominent attraction in Prague, the Prague Castle…

The assortment of roofs and steeples caught my attention…

Walking around and experiencing a mystical Prague…

Old world trams…

Resembling two dancers, this modern building which was given the nicknames of “Fred & Ginger” (after the names of two dancers) and “Dancing House” stood out like a sore thumb among the Renaissance, Gothic, Baroque and Art Nouveau buildings in Prague…

Crossing the Charles Bridge which links the Old Town to the Prague Castle…

The view of the Prague Castle at night almost single-handedly justifies a trip to Prague…

What struck me about Prague, quite apart from the almost in-your-face beauty of the city was its authenticity. Authenticity insofar as it being not (as yet) tarnished by the influx of globalisation, mass-market brands and cookie-cutter buildings. That’s why I’ve been recommending friends to go visit as soon as possible…

And you, what are you waiting for? 🙂
